EXCLUSIVE: Simon Colosimo was a special guest as the final candidates in Nike’s The Chance Trials endured a punishing series of physical tests at the AIS on Sunday.
To see the players go through the final trials...
More than 20 of the best players from Nike’s recent trials across Australia and New Zealand met up for the final round of testing over the weekend.
The trials continue on Monday and Tuesday before the big decision is made on four players who will compete for the chance of a contract at the Nike Academy in London.
Former All-White, Perth Glory and Leeds United defender Danny Hay accompanied the five Kiwi trialists, and Melbourne Heart’s Colosimo also dropped by to offer some words of support for the group.
“It’s a great initiative and gives young boys a chance to be in the shop window. And there’s obviously a reason why they’re here – because they’re good footballers,” Colosimo told au.fourfourtwo.com.
Head coach Ron Smith added that he’ll be alerting A-League coaches to the talent he sees over the next three days as the players are put through their paces including in 11 v 11 games.
“It’s going to be tough choosing the four," said Smith. "It’s going to be an exciting couple of days.”
In November the final 100 players from around the world will be announced and in January 2011, the academy trials will begin to find the final eight who’ll sign contracts with the Nike Academy.
