SYDNEY FC manager Vitezslav Lavicka remains focused ahead of the A-League Grand Final, but still offered praise for his side after defeating Wellington Phoenix 4-2 in the Preliminary Final.
The Czech mentor, who was voted the Professional Footballers Assocation Coach of the Year earlier this year, acknowledged he was delighted by the victory over Wellington.
"It was an important game for both teams. I was happy we played a good game," Lavicka said.
Lavicka was forced into an early substitution after veteran John Aloisi went off, but replacement Chris Payne popped up with two crucial goals much to the delight of the Czech boss.
"It was trouble when John Aloisi had to come off but Payne is a young player and he showed tonight that he is more than a good replacement," Lavicka said.
He added: "We are focusing on next week's game. We will have a couple of recovery sessions and after that we will prepare and train for next week's final."
Alex Brosque, who scored the third goal in the clash, revealed his excitement at reaching an A-League Grand Final for the first time in his career.
"It was good we went at them. We put them on their back foot," he said.
"We have been good on counter attacks all year and tonight was an example of that.
"We are confident that we can go down there and win.
"We need to do what we did when we beat them 3-0, we went at them, we left nothing in and just really put them on the back foot."
