SYDNEY FC boss Vitezlav Lavicka admitted his disappointment after Saturday's 1-0 loss to Brisbane but remains focused on the club's last two A-League fixtures.
The Sky Blues were dealt a late blow at Suncorp Stadium when Brisbane grabbed an 89th minute winner through Sergio van Dijk despite Sydney having clearly the better opportunities earlier in the game.
"Football is cruel. The first half we had many chances and didn't punish our opponent. They had one chance and that was enough for them," Lavicka stated.
The result leaves Sydney sitting third, two points outside the crucial top two places currently occupied by Melbourne and Gold Coast respectively.
Lavicka added: "We might be disappointed but we will move forward. We now have two very big home games against Perth and Melbourne."
Indeed, their Round 27 clash with champions Melbourne could decide who gets a shot at hosting the Grand Final in the critical Major Semi Final.
Saturday's result in Brisbane, though, offers the Victory the initiative.
The Sydney manager also added the Suncorp result was a familiar story for his side, who suffered a similar fate at the same venue, against the same side, from the same goalscorer, in Round 8 this season.
"We are very disappointed. It is like déjà vu against Brisbane and conceding a late goal but we can be happy with the way we played," he said.
Sydney FC's next game is on Sunday February 7 against Perth Glory at the SFS.
