To see today's press conference...
Speaking at his first press conference in Sydney today, the 45-year-old former Czech coach of the year said bringing a healthy team environment was the key to success.
"I have three parts to my coaching philosophy," he said in broken English. "Discipline and respect, motivation to improve and team unity.
"Discipline means be professional and that's for all team members, coaching staff. Respect each other, respect yourself, the club.
"Second is motivation. And that's a very important part of my philosophy. Motivation to improve little by little, but we need to improve at each training session and each game.
"Team unity is also very important. Relationships between the players, good relationships form a good atmosphere. A good atmosphere makes for a good environment that can make a success.
"And also we must enjoy playing and the work. We must be together for the success."
As for what type of football he'll institute at Moore Park, he said football was for the fans.
"We want toentertain but defence is also important," he stressed. "There has to be a balance with results and entertainment."
The former Sparta Prague coach who has experience in the UEFA Cup and UEFA Champions League qualifiers, refuted suggestions by one journalist that his Czech U/21 side, which he had in 2007/8, was too defensive.
Lavicka, and his assistant Michael Zach, arrived in town yesterday. Tony Popovic rounds out the team's coaching staff as an assistant.
"I know Tony Popovic who was an excellent player and is a very clever coach," added Lavicka.
And while he stopped short of promising a title in his first season, the new man had an interesting take on Gold Coast United's stated ambition of winning the title in their first season.
He admitted: "It's motivation for us."
