Aberdeen boss Craig Brown is ready to swoop for the 20-year-old former Adelaide United forward in the European summer.

Leckie was back page news in Scotland along with fellow Dons’ target Farid El Alagui of Falkirk as Aberdeen made their summer intentions clear, according to Aberdeen's Evening Express.

The exciting ex-Reds star scored twice against Aberdeen in a friendly last year which alerted the Scottish club to his talents, but the player’s agent has rubbished the report.

John Grimaud blasted the article, saying Leckie cannot play in Scotland and would instead be focusing on getting more game time in Germany.

He was hopeful the exciting striker would get more minutes at Monchengladbach in the second half of the season and added: "Mathew is doing very well."

Leckie debuted for the Bundesliga club last August and is considered a talent, evidenced by the club blocking Leckie's hopes of representing Australia at the 2011 FIFA Youth World Cup in Colombia.
