YOUNG Australian attacker Mathew Leckie has been loaned by Borussia Monchengladbach to second tier outfit FSV Frankfurt on a one-year deal for next season.
The 21-year-old, who joined Monchengladbach from Adelaide United in March 2011 on a three-year deal, has been loaned to the 2.Bundesliga club with a view to getting first-team experience.
Leckie made 11 appearances in all competitions last term for the Foals, all as a substitute, while he scored three goals in 10 matches for the club's reserves side playing in the fourth tier Regionalliga West.
Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl said that the club believed the youngster needed a full season of game-time to continue his development.
"We remain convinced of Mathew, but believe that it's very important for him at this time to gain playing experience at a high level," Eberl told the club's website.
Leckie told the FSV website he hopes to use his time at the club to continue his progression as a footballer.
"At FSV Frankfurt I would like to take the next step in my development. Here I would like to earn playing time and play with the club in a successful season," he said.
FSV director Uwe Stover said the club were delighted to seal Leckie's services for the upcoming season.
"Mathew Leckie is a versatile and offensive player who can take the competition by storm, and on both flanks," Stover told the club's website. "He is a strong sprinter. We are pleased that Mathew has chosen FSV Frankfurt."
FSV finished 13th in the Germany's 2.Bundesliga last season, scoring 43 goals in 34 league matches.
Leckie will wear the number 20 shirt at FSV and will begin training with the club this week.
