The Australian winger, who claimed two assists on his competitive debut for Hertha in Monday's DFB Pokal win, scored on 46 and 62 minutes.

The goals capped an unbelievable week for Leckie, who became a father earlier in the week, following the birth of his daughter Olivia.

Leckie almost completed his hat-trick on 80 minutes, but his shot was marginally too high.

The Australian opened the scoring after being released on the right flank, cutting inside and expertly finishing with his left foot beyond Ron-Robert Zieler who was preferred in goal for Stuttgart over Mitch Langerak.

Leckie doubled his tally with another left-foot finish, this time from close range after a corner was headed down in his direction.

Hertha boss Pal Dardai said: "I am so pleased for Leckie, he has settled down so well here. Hopefully he'll continue to kick on."

The goals are significant for Leckie, who failed to score throughout the 2016-17 campaign with relegated Ingolstadt prior to his move to Hertha, prompting criticism.

"I understand the critics a little bit, it's normal," Leckie told the club website.

"It's their job if something is going wrong, they start asking questions.

"Towards the end I was also frustrated with me not scoring. I knew I had the ability all along and if I kept working hard I could score goals.

"Today I was lucky to get in some good areas. The first goal I created with a good action and the second I was in the right spot at the right time

"Hopefully I can continue getting in dangerous areas. I definitely don't want this to be the end of me scoring goals for Hertha."

Speaking about his dream week, Leckie added: "It's a special moment for me, outside of football, with my baby just being born.

"Also two goals at the start of my career in Berlin. I've never scored two goals in a game in the Bundesliga.

"This week has been one of the best of my life. I'm going to enjoy celebrating the performance."
