MOENCHENGLADBACH bound Mathew Leckie looks set to make his Australia debut at the home of his new club after Socceroos boss Holger Osieck told him to prepare for a call-up against Germany.
Leckie, 20, revealed to the Adelaide Advertiser that Osieck had spoken to his management team about being involved in the upcoming friendly with Germany on March 29 at Moenchengladbach's Borussia-Park.
"It's like a dream. I could be playing on my new home ground in the colours of Australia. It would be a perfect start," Leckie told the Adelaide Advertiser.
Leckie scored five goals for Adelaide United in 15 appearances during the 2010/2011 A-League season, with injury curtailing his progress after a blistering start to the campaign prompted talk of a Socceroos call-up.
The exciting forward has several under-age caps but is yet to make his senior debut for Australia.
Leckie has all but sealed his three-year deal with Moenchengladbach, with all the formalities complete except a medical.
The Australia youth international is expected to spend the rest of the season training with Moenchengladbach, but he will not play for the Bundesliga's bottom club.
"I really want to see my new city, the stadium, the club and want to make it feel like home,β he said.
"I'll have a look at the way they train, get used to it and then the plan is to come back here for a month when they're off and then start the pre-season.β
Leckie added his injury-interrupted A-League season wasn't ideal preparation for his German switch.
"It was very disappointing the tackle and the injury," Leckie said.
"I wanted to play a full season here being my last year but it didn't happen.
βIt was still good to be part of the team. I can't tell you if it's really hit me leaving the club just yet."
