Ray Fell accepts that the former United favourite has every right to play his football wherever he wishes but isn't over the moon at Kewell's choice.

Kewell was a Leeds player when two of their fans were killed in clashes before a Uefa Cup semi-final against Galatasaray in Istanbul in April 2000.

Leeds lost that match 2-0 with Kewell then sent off in the second leg, a 2-2 draw at Elland Road.

Fell told The Guardian newspaper: "It's his career and his choice to make, but many Leeds fans will express their regrets.

It's disappointing, to put it mildly. Time has passed but there are people in Leeds close to the two lads we lost who will find it harder to move on."

Kewell himself acknowledged those events after joining the Turks but said: "It was a tragic thing what happened but we can't live in the past.

"We've got to look to the future and that's what I'm concentrating on."
