Former Socceroo star Bosnich made a low-key comeback earlier this week where he kept a clean sheet for Queens Park Rangers reserves.

Despite the appearance, Bosnich has remained silent on whether he intends to pursue a return to top-flight football.

Jim Fraser, the man who played a key role in steering Australia to its first ever World Cup appearance in 1974, says Bosnich’s commitment will be the key to any successful return.

Fraser is goalkeeping coach at Sydney FC and has set up the International Goalkeeping Academy with Without A Trace star Anthony LaPaglia.

Known for his passion for developing young goalkeepers, Fraser also revealed that he and LaPaglia had flirted with the idea of using Bosnich’s experience at the academy.

“Anthony was interested in resurrecting Mark’s career,” said Fraser.

“We were talking about what happened to his career and thought it would be nice for him to finish with dignity.

"We were keen to contact him and see if we could resurrect his career and maybe get him to come to the academy but he’s doing his thing now so that’s great."

He added: “I think he was the best goalkeeper in the world before they changed the back pass rule.

"That’s where he struggled and that affected him. He was coached effectively until that time, but a lot of keepers were affected by it.

“He went from being a great shot-stopper to where coaches wanted him to have more involvement in the game in a tactical sense so he started to struggle.

“If he’s worked on his general fitness and gotten back his confidence and timing and he’s very determined... Bozza is very single-minded.

"If he really wants to do it, he’ll do it.”

Popovic had not heard the news that his former team mate had played the match when speaking with au.fourfourtwo.com but also believes Bosnich’s determination would be crucial if he is serious about a comeback.

“He was always a top keeper and I’m sure if Mark puts his mind to it he can still be a top keeper,” said Popovic. “It’s all up to him.”

The former Crystal Palace defender added: “I probably last saw him a couple of years ago, in London.

"He was in good spirits and whatever he decides to do I’m sure he’d do it very well.

“If he decided to give football a crack I’m sure he wouldn’t do it half-heartedly.

"I’ve known him for some time and having played with him and seen him a bit in London, he’s like that – he’s a very focused guy.

"If he’s really giving football a crack then I’m pleased for him and I’m sure he’ll give it his best.”
