Leijer believes Melbourne's form - four draws in as many matches - is merely due to bad luck and teething problems.

"It's always tough because they've made about seven or eight signings," he told au.fourfourtwo.com.

"It's going to take time but I'm sure with the players they've got it's just been because they've been unlucky.

"As you saw against Adelaide, they were given a penalty against them and those things can come down to luck. I'm sure they'll get the results soon and make the finals."

He added: "I've spoken to a lot of the Victory guys and I've spoken to Ernie Merrick since leaving and I've been following it from England.

"Melbourne Victory is still close to home. I had a good couple of years with them. I'll keep following the boys and watching the highlights.

"You miss being part of the boys but I'm living my dream at the moment so there's one part of me that misses it and one part of me that's just really excited about what I'm doing."

Leijer transferred to the English Premier League in the off-season and says he rarely looks back.

"The facilities are fantastic. The training fields are fantastic, it's like carpet," he said.

"I was sitting in the player's lounge and then this Harrods helicopter flies in and lands on the pitch. It's a different world and it's something I'm really enjoying.

"It was a big move and I'm still in the settling-in phase but I'm loving it. It's a great challenge and everything over there is just surrounded by football. I'm really looking forward to the next few years."

While he has not yet made his first team debut, Fulham officials have told the Dubbo-born player they are happy with his progress.

"It's hard to tell about being in the starting side at this stage," he added.

"I've only really been there for about four weeks so it's hard to know but from the games that I've played I'm getting good feedback.

"I'll just keep my head down and you never know what's going to happen around the corner."
