The England man set up Roman Pavlyuchenko to side-foot the home side into the lead after 10 minutes and take Spurs up to 15th ahead of Sunderland's clash with West Ham later in the day.

Spurs boss Redknapp has brought the best out of Darren Bent since his appointment as manager last month - and now it appears he has had the same affect on Lennon, a statement the 21-year-old would agree with.

"I've been getting better and better I think since the new boss has come in and today was probably my best performance," he told Sky Sports 1.

"But it's not just me but it's everyone in general, he's given us confidence and freedom to play and I think that's it really. He's given me license to get at people and that's my game really.

"It's been a hard start to the season and now we're glad to get out of (the bottom three) again. Hopefully we can carry on and push up the table now."

As well as setting up the winner Lennon was involved in both challenges which saw Rovers full-back Martin Olsson sent from the field for two bookings after 39 minutes.

Lennon said: "It was a hard game to be fair. We had a good few chances in the first half and could have killed the game off, especially once they down to 10 men.

"But sometimes that's what you've got to do, you've just got to work hard and hang on at 1-0, and we'll take that, we're happy with that."
