Lennon has been out of action since his operation at the end of last season but is scheduled to play some part in the Premier League clash for Spurs at Craven Cottage.

The options on the right flank for England boss Steve McClaren has been complicated by injury to David Beckham, Kieron Dyer's broken leg and Steven Gerrard nursing a broken toe.

Although Shaun Wright-Phillips impressed in his Wembley cameo in the defeat to Germany, the pace of Lennon would add to McClaren's attacking options should England need to chase the games against Israel and Russia.

"He's had three very good days of training after his period of rehab," said Spurs assistant boss Chris Hughton. "He has looked sharp and the priority is that he puts himself in a position to play for us.

"There are players that you rule out completely that will not be involved, we haven't ruled him out. We have to make a decision over the next couple of days."

Striker Darren Bent, who missed the Germany friendly with a thigh problem, is also back in contention along with centre-back Michael Dawson.

Jermain Defoe was an unused substitute against Germany but his future at White Hart Lane has been uncertain over the last week since boss Martin Jol called on him to sign a new contract to show his commitment to the club.

Spurs are wary of the striker running his contract down as Sol Campbell did, and Jol admitted that a bid would put them in a tricky position. Hughton also wants Defoe to sign a new deal.

"He is very much a part of the squad we have," he said. "He is a quality player and an integral part of what we are trying to achieve here. From the club's point of view we want him here."

Dimitar Berbatov's immediate future at Spurs seemed more secure after his comments this week, with Hughton adding: "The most important thing is that he is very happy here.

"He had a wonderful first season and is looking forward to having another good one."

Centre-back Younes Kaboul could also return for Spurs against Fulham, and there have been no setbacks in Ledley King's rehabilitation, with the Spurs skipper due to return in around a month.
