Adelaide United midfielder Vince Lia says the side's slow starts are a mental issue they must overcome.
The Reds have conceded the first goal in both of their opening two rounds inside the first 10 minutes.
Despite that they've claimed a 1-1 draw away to Wellington Phoenix and 2-1 win on the road to Brisbane Roar.
Lia said he wanted the Reds to adjust their approach and stop having to chase the game.
"I think it's a mental thing," Lia said.
"I think we need to change our approach at the beginning of games and take a few less risks.
"We seem to get ourselves into trouble more often than the other team being the better side early on.
"We'll address that tomorrow and in the team meeting on Friday before the game.
"Hopefully we start well and go a goal up. I'd like to see how we go going up, instead of having to chase the game."
United are in action on Friday night at Adelaide Oval against old rivals Melbourne Victory, who have lost their opening two games.
"They're always a dangerous side to play," Lia said.
"They're a good side, they'll be challenging again for the title.
"Two losses but they've played the two teams on top of the ladder who are expected to challenge.
"The Aussie boys just got back last week, maybe they were fatigued. They'll be up for this game, we have to be as well."
United's new number 10 and Algerian signing Karim Matmour missed the win in Brisbane due to soreness.
"Hopefully (he'll be fit)," Lia said. "He trained today and trained well.
"He's a really good player, we brought him here to help us win trophies. We need him fit and firing."
