The reliable Ivan Necevski will take Reddy's place for the trip to Hindmarsh Stadium.

Reddy was superb in Sydney's opening round 0-0 draw with Melbourne but was beaten twice by Roar last start.

He has been unable to train at full tilt this week and was withdrawn from the side on Friday morning. Reddy and Necevski waged a season-long battle for the custodian's role last campaign.

Reddy started the season in goal and lasted 10 games before coach Vitezslav Lavicka called Necevski in for the next 10 matches.

Reddy regained his spot in Round 21 and played the next six matches before again being disposed by his rival. Necevski stayed between the sticks for a fortnight but by season's end Reddy was back in favour.

“It’s a good opportunity for me,” Necevski said today. “Football is a funny game, especially for goalkeepers and opportunities always come along.

"Now it is up to me to take this opportunity and stake a claim to stay in the team past this weekend. That is only going to happen if I play well so I am focussing on this game and this game only.

“Being on the bench is tough but I always tried to stay positive physically and mentally so that I am ready when the opportunity comes.

“Adelaide is going to be tough. They were very good against Melbourne Victory last week and when they had a chance through a defensive mistake they took that chance and punished them.”

Sydney, with just one point and no goals from their opening two matches, are desperate to take something away from the Adelaide match.

The Reds are on a high after seeing off Melbourne 1-0 in Round 2.
