Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that Luis Suarez will not depart Anfield, despite continued interest from Arsenal.
Suarez, 26, is eager to leave Liverpool and has publicly criticised the club for allegedly refusing to honour an agreement to allow him to depart if a UEFA Champions League were to submit a bid over £40million.
Arsenal are keen to take to Suarez to the Emirates Stadium, and have seen two approaches rebuffed by Liverpool so far.
Arsene Wenger admitted his side's bid was "on standby" amid reports the striker could take legal action against his current club to force a departure.
And, though Rodgers confirmed that Suarez is not training with the rest of the first-team squad, he insisted the former Ajax man will be a Liverpool player come the end of the transfer window.
"Luis is training on his own and he understands totally where we're coming from," Rodgers said.
"We're quite calm. The club is in control of the situation. We've got no inclination to sell and we've been strong on that.
"Luis has fought for his life for Liverpool. There will come a point where he'll recognise the club is not going to sell.
"It's been a difficult period for him but it's my job to protect the group. Once he's back with the spirit he'll rejoin the group."
Suarez earned many plaudits for his performances last season, a campaign in which he scored 30 goals in 44 appearances, and Rodgers is confident he can reproduce that form upon his return to action.
The Uruguayan will miss the first six games of the season after biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic in a late-season game last term, but Rodgers is confident in his striker's ability to hit the ground running.
"He's a world-class striker," the Ulsterman added.
"I've got no question that when he's back he'll have a similar impact (to last season)."
