RAFAEL Benitez admitted after Saturday's rousing 4-1 thrashing of Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United that Liverpool would need to win all their remaining matches to have a chance of catching the Red Devils.
Here, PA Sport's Rich Jones takes a look at how they might fare over those nine games.
ASTON VILLA (H), MARCH 22
As Liverpool have flourished in recent times, Villa have floundered and their paper-thin squad is showing the effects of a long, hard season.
VERDICT: WIN
FULHAM (A), APRIL 6
Roy Hodgson's men were mightily impressive in getting a draw at Anfield earlier in the season, but they have slipped from those standards and may pose less of a threat now they appear all but safe from relegation.
VERDICT: WIN
BLACKBURN (H), APRIL 11
Rovers have improved under Sam Allardyce and are fighting for their lives but, as at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, they should be outclassed.
VERDICT: WIN
ARSENAL (H), APRIL 19
The Gunners are arguably the Premier League's form side and should have Cesc Fabregas back in their midfield by the time they travel to Merseyside. Two parsimonious defences are likely to dominate.
VERDICT: DRAW
HULL (A), APRIL 25
City's lack of top-flight class has been evident for months and Liverpool are simply too good in every department.
VERDICT: WIN
NEWCASTLE (H), MAY 2
A fallen giant scrambling for survival - potentially led by former Reds striker Michael Owen, who should have some game time under his belt by then. Dangerous.
VERDICT: DRAW
WEST HAM (A), MAY 9
The Hammers have made massive strides under Gianfranco Zola this season but their willingness to attack on home turf could prove their undoing.
VERDICT: WIN
WEST BROM (A), MAY 16
The Baggies have the defensive capabilities of Dad's Army and will surely be relegated by the penultimate round of matches. Put your money on a rout.
VERDICT: WIN
TOTTENHAM (H), MAY 24
Could old-boy Robbie Keane be the man to wreck Liverpool's dream? Given that Spurs are likely to have nothing to play for, if Benitez's men need the points, they will probably get them.
VERDICT: WIN
FINAL VERDICT
A haul of 23 points from the final 27 on offer represents good work - but it looks as though the title will be heading to Old Trafford once again.
