The Jets boss believes Milicevic would be a fantastic addition to the Jets squad for next season and is determined to persuade the 27-year-old that it is the perfect move for him.

Speaking to au.fourfourtwo.com today van Egmond said: "I will be speaking to Ljubo and his brother today and yes, I'm encouraged.

"I think he is a magnificent player and you look at someone like that and of course you'd love to have them at your disposal.

"You look at the type of player he is and wonder how is it possible that he is not playing for the Socceroos at the moment?

"From our initial talks, he is very, very motivated and desperately wants to do well in the upcoming season. I very much hope that he will do that with the Newcastle Jets.

"Oh, and there's also the prospect of Champions League football as well, something any player would love to be involved with I'm sure."

And as an extra bargaining tool, van Egmond will point to the Jets' excellent record in getting players on to the international scene.

Jade North has stepped up to the senior squad recently with the club boasting a more than healthy number of Olyroos as well.

Van Egmond said: "That's something we can certainly point to and hopefully that won't be lost on Ljubo either."
