The former Sweden international was part of the last side to win a trophy under Wenger and believes fresh players are necessary if they are to do so again.

Ljungberg made 328 appearances during his nine years at Arsenal, scoring 72 goals, and lifted the Premier League trophy twice and the FA Cup three times, but he was disappointed to see the celebrations after the current squad sealed a fourth-place finish on the final day of the season.
"I'm not too happy myself that they celebrated for that," he said. "How I see the club is different, from the old school. I remember Pat Rice said to me if you don't win the trophy every season it's a failure.

"So it's a bit different now because maybe they have all the debt from the new stadium but we'll see what happens in the summer and hopefully we'll have a better team next year.

"They have the foundations but maybe they need to get some very good players to spice it up.

"It's hard for any team if you give up our best players every year, it's not really possible to compete or win but I think they're doing really well with the squad as it is."
