Freddie Ljungberg admits a Scottish Cup clash at tiny Berwick Rangers was not the debut he had in mind when he signed for Celtic.
But the former Arsenal midfielder insists he was far from fazed by the unglamorous surroundings of Shielfield Park and is now ready to make an impact with the Hoops.
Ljungberg played for just over 60 minutes as Neil Lennon's men ran out 2-0 winners in the fourth round tie, thanks to goals from Daniel Majstorovic and Scott Brown.
Asked if a trip to the English town was the bow he expected, he admitted: "No, not exactly. First of all, I want to say that the community did a great job to get the field playable.
"But it was a bit icy and stuff and that's something I've never experienced before but you get on with it and the important thing is that we won the game.
"I had heard what it was like and I played in Sweden when I was young and I have seen fields like this and that's part of being a footballer.
"It's not always the big, nice stadium and the best pitch - you need to handle everything. That was the character of the team, we showed today that we can handle it and we won the game."
Ljungberg was set to make his debut in last week's Old Firm derby at Ibrox but missed out with a virus.
He said: "It would have been a difference!
"But I got sick and couldn't do much about it. I just want to go out and play football.
"We talked about me maybe doing 45-60 minutes and see how I got on. I did 60 minutes and that was okay. I've just got to play and push on because that's what I love to do."
Ljungberg revealed he was even denied the chance to watch the clash against Rangers, adding: "I got a bit upset because I snuggled up with my bucket next to me and the game was on Sky Sports 4 and I only had 1, 2 and 3 so I had to listen to it on the radio."
Meanwhile, Berwick boss Jimmy Crease hopes his own players will pick up a few tips from Celtic's stars - especially Ljungberg.
He said: "He is a quality player and we like to play against people like that.
"It has been an experience for us to play against good, quality players. Hopefully my guys can learn a few things from them and take it on board."
