Brazil opened their Olympic campaign with a 3-2 win over Egypt on Thursday, despite a spirited second-half comeback from the Pharaohs.
Goals from Rafael da Silva, Leandro Damiao and Neymar saw the Selecao race into a three-goal lead at half-time.
Mohamed Abo Trika and Mohamed Salah hit back in the second half but it was not enough.
Meanwhile, Dmitry Baga's first-half header was enough to hand Belarus a 1-0 victory over New Zealand in the other Group C clash at the City of Coventry Stadium.
The defensive midfielder capitalised on an error by goalkeeper Michael O'Keeffe to nod home a corner aimed at the back post on the stroke of half-time.
It was not the first time Belarus had threatened from a set-piece as the discipline and organisation of Georgy Kondratyev's side triumphed over the promising and inventive but, in the end, fruitless passing play of New Zealand.
