The club were in the market for a new coach after Jose Molina was sacked on Sunday in the wake of the team's 1-0 loss to Levante, and they have now confirmed Lotina as his replacement.

Lotina, 54,will take charge of Villarreal training for the first time on Monday and will be presented to the press afterwards.

Lotina had been out of work ever since he left Deportivo La Coruna in the summer of 2011 after the club's relegation.

His other coaching stints included clubs such as Logrones, Numancia, Badajoz, Osasuna, Celta, Espanyol and Real Sociedad.

Molina was promoted to the Villarreal first team from the reserve side back in December to replace the sacked Juan Carlos Garrido, but guided the side to only three victories in his 11 league games in charge.

Lotina's first match at the helm will be against Real Madrid in La Liga on Wednesday.
