Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe was in a cheeky mood when addressing his plan for Socceroo and Melbourne City star Tim Cahill.
Lowe’s men have only won three games this season, one of which came away to City in Round 3. The 3-2 victory came after Andy Keogh stole the show with a hat-trick.
The coach insisted the focus was on City as a team rather than their superstar signing, taking a light-hearted approach to questions about Cahill, asking: “Sorry, Who?”.
“He’s just a very good player (but) same as Bruno Fornaroli, Fernando Brandan, Bruce Kamau, Neil Kilkenny and Thomas Sorensen who might be playing. It doesn’t matter, they’re all good players who have a good coach.
“We’re just looking forward to it, it’ll be a good game to play.”
Lowe said Diego Castro may be a chance to start after recovering from a hamstring injury while Rhys Williams remains as the only absentee for the Glory, with mounting speculation he will be leaving the club in January.
Both teams will be rejuvenated after the Christmas break, but the Glory have little time to rest with a match against Western Sydney Wanderers on New Year’s Day.
The Perth boss was not buying into the idea the double away trip would have a mental impact on the players.
“You get chance to recharge and work on things in the training ground, but it’s just part and parcel, it’s just how we schedule,” he said.
“We knew that from day one, so it’s just plan and prepare as we normally do.
“If you’re a foreign boy you don’t want to be away from your missus and kids because you have no support… If you have 27 kids and they’re swinging off chandeliers over Christmas, you want to be somewhere nice and quiet… so everyone is different.
“It’s important to win every game. We sit where we sit, there’s 16 games left wherever it is, plenty to play for and look forward to.
“It was a similar situation last year and we had two wins on two trips and if that happens I think everyone will be happy.”
