Perth Glory coach Kenny Lowe says he made his children’s party look quiet after leaping off his bed when he witnessed upcoming opponent Tim Cahill’s wonder goal for Melbourne City.
Glory travels to face Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Friday night, less than a week after the Socceroos superstar marked his club debut with a stunning strike in the derby.
“I was at home watching it, I was laying on the bed,” Lowe said.
“The kids were having a party outside and I made more noise than them when it went in.
“Those are the things that are exciting, that’s why people love the game.
“Everyone’s gone mental about it now. I think it’s superb he’s come back and it looks as though he’s producing.
“But hopefully on Friday he has a little off day.”
Lowe insisted Glory couldn’t wait to face title contenders City who knocked Perth out of last season’s finals.
The Glory coach added that they wouldn’t be playing for a draw, despite being without round one double-goal hero Adam Taggart who has a calf problem.
“He’s got a slight, not a strain, some fluid around the muscle in the calf,” Lowe said.
“It just hasn’t responded as well, we thought he’d be back this week but it hasn’t panned out.
“Definitely he’ll be in the frame for next week.”
Lowe also confirmed Rostyn Griffiths and Rhys Williams would take their place despite doubts and also revealed defender Shane Lowry is close to a return after a hip injury.
“We’ve got a really flexible squad,” Lowe said. “Lowry will be back next week, then you’ve got Lowry, (Alex) Grant, Rhys (Williams) and Dino (Djulbic).
“There’s going to be a bit of competition for places but that flexibility forces pressure into other areas like midfield which is good for us.”
