The Glory’s only clean sheet of the season came in Round 2 in a 2-0 win over Wellington Phoenix as they look to hurt the out-of-form Newcastle Jets at home on Saturday.

Perth have been dogged with key outs this season with Alex Grant (hamstring – 1 week), Joel Chianese (groin – 1 week) and Diego Castro (hamstring – 4 weeks) currently injured.

Lowe said an inconsistent backline did not help as Perth sit fifth on the table with three wins from nine games.

He welcomes back Rhys Williams (returns from suspension) and Josh Risdon (quad),

Aryn Williams (adductor) and Joseph Mills (knee) may also take part in the Jets game.

“They’re not excuses, just facts, it’s good if we can get a solid back four… that’s continuity which breeds confidence and from that you look to get a settled and more stable defensive unit,” Lowe said.

“Errors and continuity of the same back four playing, we haven’t had the same defence any single game.

“Most of the goals we’ve conceded have been our own errors, the goal we scored the other week, it wasn’t an error on our part, you won’t see a better goal all year and then you look at the one we conceded - it’s an error.

“There’s a lot of potential if you look at the group, there’s more to come from a lot of people I believe and the group believes that.

“It comes back to hopefully getting a settled XI, winning games which drives competition for places with no injuries in the squad, so you have to fight to get in.”

Forgotten Socceroo Adam Taggart will potentially face his former club on Saturday after recovering from a calf issue this season.

Despite a lack of game time, Taggart has managed two goals in four games with Lowe confirming the club would ease up on the 23-year-old.

“I see him in a good place, coming into this I reiterated that Taggs and Williams, when they would be close to getting into their best and I was talking 12 to 15 games,” he said.

“That’s if we got a seamless run and they’ve had a bit of a broken run on that front, not saying I have a crystal ball… but the lads have been out a long time, don’t expect too much from them.

“It’s good they’re fit, healthy and ready to play.

“We’re in a position of where we can improve, but also a position where we can strike, so we’re in a good spot. We’ve got plenty of games left and stock standard after 27 games we’ll have a chat.”
