Exclusive: Off-contract defender Shane Lowry is hoping to earn a new deal at Perth Glory and stay with his hometown club.
Lowry’s contract with the Glory finishes at the end of the 2017/18 season.
The centre back joined the club in January 2016 on a two-and-a-half-year deal after spending 11 years in the UK.
The former Millwall and Leyton Orient man is keen to remain with Perth.
“I’ve put a run of games together for myself,” he told FourFourTwo.
“Hopefully I can try and get a new deal here or we’ll wait and see, it’s up to the club. I’m just concentrating on playing well and whatever happens will happen.
"Anything can happen in football. I’m not really looking at the next stage at the minute. I know personally from a selfish point of view that I have to stay fit and play well, keep my options open.”
Lowry has made 33 appearances with Glory since he moved back to Australia. The 28-year-old left his hometown in 2005 as a teenager to sign for Aston Villa.
He went on to loan spells with Plymouth Argyle, Leeds United and Sheffield United before spending three season with Millwall.
Lowry admits family considerations are important to him when it comes to deciding his future.
“I’m 28 now and 29 in June,” he said.
“I’m from Perth, I’m quite settled here. I think I moved four or five times in the last five years. I can say that I want to stay here and something can come up and I could move again – I don’t really know what’s ahead.
"It’s such an unpredictable business. But I’m quite happy here and being in the A-League at the moment, I’m happy getting games. My family are here, which is quite important to me.
“I’ve got a little girl now, a three-year-old, and she comes into my equation as well. It’s not just about me being selfish anymore.”
Perth sit in eighth place in the A-League after an unlucky 2-1 loss to Newcastle on Sunday.
“It’s been up and down,” Lowry said.
“We’ve had a lot of travel, a lot of injuries. But it’s good for some young player to get their opportunities, and they’ve been doing well.”
