EUROROOS WRAP: Socceroos skipper Lucas Neill had a dramatic night as Galatasaray dropped points after a 0-0 draw at James Troisi's Kayserispor in the Turkish Super Lig overnight.
With leaders Fenerbahce to play Diyarbakirspor on Sunday, a Galatasaray victory at fourth-placed Kayserispor would have moved the Istanbul giants into top spot.
But neither side could break the deadlock in a tense encounter which threatened to boil over early after a clash between Neill and Kayserispor striker Ariza Makukula.
The Australian made a tackle on Makukula inside the penalty box which set off protests from the Kayserispor players, but the referee ignored their spotkick claims.
Makukula then reacted unkindly to Neill before the pair were involved in a face-to-face scuffle although both somehow escaped sanction.
Later in the opening half, Neill almost found the back of the net down the other end, when Arda Turan's spectacular attempt at an overhead fell to the Socceroo who fired a volley goalbound only to be denied by the body of a Kayserispor player on the line.
Turan wasted a good chance before the break for Cimbom, although when Kayserispor's Hakan Aslantas was sent off on 64 minutes, the visitors might have fancied their chances of grabbing that elusive winner.
Later on, Elano Blumer took too long with a good chance before Kayserispor's Franco Cangele had a decent penalty shout waved away.
And neither side could find a route to goal so it ended goalless.
While Neill played the full game for Galatasaray, Troisi did not get a run for Kayserispor who move into third for the time being.
Elsewhere around Europe overnight, Mark Bresciano returned to the Palermo starting eleven after injury and played 81 minutes as the Sicilians leapfrogged Juventus into fifth with a 2-1 win over Parma in Italy's Serie A.
In Italy's Serie B, Carl Valeri was a 59th minute substitute as Sassuolo stayed top of the division with a 1-0 win at Triestina.
In Greece's Super League, Craig Moore returned from suspension to play a full game for Kavala as they defeated Giannina 1-0.
In Belgium's Pro League, Nikita Rukavytsya started and played 75 minutes as KSV Roeselare lost 2-0 at Cercle Brugge.
In Scotland's Premier League, Trent McClenahan was left out of the Hamilton squad altogether, as they lost 1-0 at Motherwell. Hamilton are currently last in the SPL.
In the Scottish Cup, Danny Invincibile was a 62nd minute sub as Kilmarnock cruised past Inverness 3-0, while Ryan McGowan played a full game as Ayr United were knocked out 2-1 by Dundee. New signing Rocky Visconte was cup-tied.
