His club West Ham plays the newly crowned champions Manchester United, and the Aussie defender is confident Sunday won’t turn into a nightmare for the in-form Hammers.

“Well, it's not a bad time to play [Manchester United] because they might have one eye on the FA Cup," Neill said.

"I'm really excited, really looking forward to it and I reckon we're going to give them a really good game.

"Obviously, we've had a great run of late and this is kind of a 40 million pound game, although we have another game [Sheffield United versus Wigan] that can dictate matters for us."

Sheffield United and West Ham have 38 points while Wigan is on 35. A draw will save West Ham whatever the result at Bramall Lane. But if Sheffield win or draw they will be safe and Wigan will go down. However, a victory for Wigan keeps them up and would leave Sheffield needing West Ham to lose against the Red Devils.

West Ham could still survive if they lose narrowly together with Sheffield netting four or more against Wigan.

Wigan is the bookies’ favourite to join Charlton and Watford in the Championship next season.
