Twente chairman Joop Munsterman spoke out after Wilkshire's $10million move to Dynamo Moscow was confirmed today.

"Five weeks ago we extended his contract and gave him a better salary. Four weeks after that he tells us he is leaving us," Munsterman told De Telegraaf.

"We could not fulfil his wishes.

"I am not naive, such things happen in the world of top football. It does disappoint me though.

"It's a shame and annoying, but it's all about the money. We always expected Luke's transfer. We couldn't do much about it."

But Wilkshire insisted he only made the move after being impressed at the club's facilities and consulting with Socceroo coach Pim Verbeek.

"There was interest from Dinamo dating back a little while so, when they approached the club, I came to have a look at what they've got here and have a look around," Wilkshire told the Daily Telegraph.

"I see it as another step forward in my career, it's a massive club with enormous history and massive resources behind it. Even the training ground is top, top quality.

"I spoke to a number of people - including Pim Verbeek and many other players - and it seemed like a good option for me. Pim did some work in Russia and that was actually a major turning point in my thinking after Dinamo came in for me.

"He spoke very highly of the club and the city and it gave me a great insight into it all before I even came to have a look for myself."

He added: "As I thought, and he confirmed, it's a great opportunity and one that you don't want to let pass you by.

"When I spoke with Pim last week in London he assured me this was a good step and would be good in terms of the national team too - he feels it's a tough, competitive league."
