Socceroos midfielder Massimo Luongo has hailed the impact of Aaron Mooy and Jackson Irvine following their respective arrivals in England’s Championship.
Luongo, who plays his club football with QPR, has already faced Mooy’s league leading Huddersfield and Irvine’s Burton Albion in England’s second tier this season.
“We’ve played both of them. They’re both threats that we looked at when we played against them,” Luongo said.
Mooy has been a revelation for the league leaders, having won the club’s Player of the Month for both August and September and being nominated for the league award for August.
“Azza (Aaron Mooy) keeps their team ticking,” Luongo said.
“He’s the heart of their team. We identified him as their main man to get their boys going.
“They’re a good side. They’ve come a long way from what I used to know what Huddersfield were like. They play really good football, patient football and he’s got a good role in their team.”
Irvine has scored five goals in 10 games for the newly promoted Brewers, playing in a more advanced midfield role.
“Jackson has done really well, he’s impressed me the most,” Luongo said.
“No one has expected them to do as a team really well. They’re not the biggest club, they’ve just come up.
“Names wise, they’ve not got anyone big or anything like that, but as a team they’re sticking in there.
“Jackson has found his perfect role in their team, getting in the box, late runs into the box.
“I remember playing against him, the amount of late runs he did into the box I had to track him, I had to track him because I didn’t want Jackson scoring against me.
“He was definitely a threat that we looked at when we played against him. You can see where he’s getting his goals and how important he is.”
The trio have linked up in Jeddah ahead of Friday morning’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia.
