TALENTED Aussie youngster Massimo Luongo has had his loan spell with Championship strugglers Ipswich Town cut short and has subsequently returned to Tottenham.
The 20-year-old Sydney-born midfielder wasn't in the plans of new Town boss Mick McCarthy as he tries to steer them away from relegation.
Luongo had been a regular under Paul Jewell earlier in the season, making 11 appearances in all competitions and scoring once.
However, he has struggled for opportunities in recent weeks and McCarthy explained the decision on the club's website.
"Massimo has gone back," he said. "He's a good footballer, but you'd expect that coming from Tottenham, but I need a different type of player.
"He's not been playing games and Tottenham said that if he's not playing football here, then they will take him back. We wish Mass well."
The Australia youth international has only made one appearance for Tottenham, coming in the League Cup last season where he dramatically missed a spotkick in a penalty shootout.
