Albert Luque hopes his move to Ajax will revitalise his stalled career.
The Spain international moved to the Amsterdam ArenA on a three-year deal last month after an unhappy spell at Premier League outfit Newcastle.
Luque fell out of favour at St James' Park, making just six league starts in two injury-hit seasons following his big money arrival from Deportivo La Coruna in 2005.
But the forward, who made his Ajax debut in the 2-2 draw against FC Groningen last weekend, believes the worst is now behind him and admits to having one eye on a recall to the Spain squad.
Luque told www.ajax.nl: "I want to play many games for Ajax and become important.
"It would be nice to make it back into the Spanish national team. But if that doesn't happen it's no drama. Everything I have is now aimed at Ajax."
The 29-year-old added that the disappointing draw with Groningen on his debut can be attributed to the Amsterdammers' exit from the Champions League at the hands of Slavia Prague just days earlier.
"That was not a good match," Luque said. "Things didn't go perfectly for my side and I noticed that the team was still was a bit shaken about the elimination in the Champions League qualifying round."
