Steven Lustica says he swapped Brisbane Roar for Western Sydney this season for the chance to develop under coach Tony Popovic.
Lustica spent three years in Brisbane, sandwiched between a short stint in Adelaide. The midfielder played more than 60 games for Roar, helping the club win the double in 2014.
But the Canberra product signed for Wanderers for the next two years in May. The 25-year old wants to improve and become a better player, and believes Popovic is the man to help him do that.
"I was speaking to the boss, I felt it was the right club for me to be at at this point in my career," he told FourFourTwo.
"I felt that I’m in the right environment. I can’t praise enough their professionalism and I just feel at home.
"I feel the coaching staff under Tony Popovic can help me improve my game and take to me to a new level.
"That’s my biggest thing, I just want to keep on improving and keep evolving my game. I feel like Wanderers is the perfect environment for me to do that."
Lustica knows at Western Sydney, just like in the sunshine state, that the goal is to win silverware. The central midfielder is also looking forward to playing in front of the club's Red and Black Bloc.
"Wanderers are a massive club so the expectations are always the highest," he said.
"Of course we want to win everything. We’ve got high expectations of ourselves. The bar is always set at the highest level. We want to be winning.
"There’s no doubt we have the best fans in the league. Playing in front of them is going to be a real honour and something that I’m definitely looking forward to."
Lustica will be competing with the likes of Mitch Nichols, Jacob Melling, Dimas, Jumpei Kusukami, Bruno Pinatares and Nicolas Martinez for a spot in Western Sydney's midfield this season.
"Depth is what a successful team is built on," he said.
"If you don’t have depth you wont be successful. The depth we have this season is fantastic, we’ve got players competing all over the park for every position. We’re all competing at training but the team cohesion is really good."
Lustica previously spent two years playing in Croatia and still harbours ambitions of heading overseas in the the future. But for now he is adamant he only has eyes for the Wanderers.
"Of course, but my focus now is purely on Western Sydney," he said.
"I’m not looking too far ahead. I’m very happy where I am at the moment."
