The 21-year-old winger produced a Player of the Match display which will have parent club Midtjylland impressed.

Mabil flashed a shot wide early in the first half, before his back-heel created space for Robin Soder to curl home inside the box on 54 minutes.

The former Adelaide United man made it 2-0 on 81 minutes, ghosting in at the far post to slide home Konstantinos Tsimikas’ low cross.

Mabil played his part on a swift counter-attack, with a well-weighted throughball for Tsimikas to power home on 85 minutes.

Fellow Australian Brent McGrath played a full game up front as Esbjerg moves away from relegation in 12th.

Meanwhile in Germany’s 2.Bundesliga, Mitchell Langerak played a full 90 minutes as Stuttgart won 2-1 away to Ben Halloran’s Heidenheim.

The result boosts Stuttgart’s promotion hopes as they extend their lead atop the table to six points

Halloran was absent for Heidenheim.

Not the prettiest match but we'll take it! #dirtywin
