Olyroo Awer Mabil will leave his Danish club FC Midtjylland for an unnamed Scandinavian club on loan imminently.
FourFourTwo can confirm Mabil’s new club will be in Scandinavia, with Danish reports linking him with Brent McGrath’s struggling Esbjerg.
Mabil, 20, has struggled for game-time at Midtjylland since joining the Superliga outfit on a five-year deal last year.
The former Adelaide United winger only made nine appearances for the 2014-15 Danish champions last term.
He hasn’t been in a matchday squad since their opening game of this season on July 1 in Europe against Lithuanian club Suduva when he was an unused substitute.
The Kenya-born youngster was linked with a loan move in the back-end of last season but opted to stay with his Danish club.
Mabil told FourFourTwo last week he was weighing up his future and considering a loan.
“Yes I want to do that,” he said. “I need to keep developing and playing games is really important for me in the next one to two years.”
He said his lack of game-time had left him at a crossroads.
“I have not been given any playing time to prove anything to them so I am not sure what's going to happen,” he said.
“It is annoying but I am not letting it get into my head.
“I am training hard and doing my extras to make sure I don't get left behind.”
