While McDonald was rested for Celtic's Wembley Cup game on Monday morning against Tottenham, he scored a brace in his side's 5-0 win against African Champions and Egyptian side Al-Ahly two days earlier.

It was a great tournament for last year's Scottish Premier League runners up who finished ahead of European Champions Barcelona in the standings to win the inaugural Wembley Cup.

Afterwards, speaking exclusively with au.fourfourtwo.com, McDonald reflected on his Wembley experience.

"It's nice to go away with winning it. I don't think too many people would have expected us to go out and win that so it was nice," admitted McDonald.

"Obviously you'd like to do it on different terms then a friendly tournament but some boys will never get that chance again so it's a great honour and it's been a pleasure playing here."

The tournament was Celtic's final preparation before they take on Luke Wilkshire's Dinamo Moscow in a UEFA Champions League qualifier on Wednesday and McDonald believes the Hoops are in a good position to get one over his Socceroos team-mate.

"They were good performances which it's nice to see at this early stage of the season," he said. "It looks like we're going to be ready for Wednesday.

"Hopefully we can get out there and get a positive result and get to Moscow with a couple goals under our belt but only time will tell."

The Socceroo striker also hinted that he expects to start the first leg of the Champions League qualifier on Wednesday.

He added: "The majority of the boys that were rested, including myself, had played all three other games that we've played and I would imagine a lot of us are in (Celtic manager Tony Mowbray's) mind for the game on Wednesday."
