Jamie Maclaren will be unavailable for Australia’s upcoming friendly with Kuwait due to a back injury which is worse than originally diagnosed.
The 25-year-old striker has missed Hibernian’s past two fixtures including a penalty shootout defeat to Aberdeen in the Scottish League Cup overnight.
Hibs have confirmed Maclaren was unavailable due to a back injury, suffered during training last week.
Maclaren underwent scans earlier this week which have shown the problem is worse than originally feared.
The injury is now expected to keep the ex-Brisbane Roar forward sidelined for several weeks, extending until the October international break.
The Socceroos are due to play Kuwait in a friendly on October 15 in Kuwait City as an important 2019 Asian Cup tune-up.
Maclaren has scored one goal in five appearances for Hibs this season, after joining the Scottish club on a season-long loan from SV Darmstadt.
Tomi Juric (hamstring), Andrew Nabbout (shoulder) and Mathew Leckie (knee) are all currently battling injuries, depleting Australia’s attacking options.
