AUSSIES ABROAD: Former Central Coast and Wellington striker Dylan Macallister scored in the UEFA Champions League overnight as Breidablik defeated Norwegian giants Rosenborg 2-0.
The match was the second leg of their UEFA Champions League second round qualifier, with Rosenborg having won the first leg 5-0.
Macallister, who had joined the Icelandic champions in May after leaving Wellington at the end of last season, had played in the first leg defeat but salvaged something in Wednesday's return leg as he broke the deadlock on 28 minutes.
Kristinn Jonsson played the Australian in and he kept his composure to slot the goal which would have been particularly special as Macallister spent three years in Norway earlier in his career with SK Brann, Lyn Oslo and Sparta Sarpsborg.
Macallister, who was lively throughout, might have doubled their lead before the break when he fired over when well placed.
The 29-year-old Aussie, though, turned provider in the second-half when he put in Kristinn Steindorsson who finished well from a tight angle on 84 minutes.
The result meant Breidablik bowed out of the Champions League as expected, but not without a fight.
Elsewhere this week, in Germany's 2.Bundesliga on Monday, there was no debut for Robbie Kruse who was an unused substitute as Fortuna Dusseldorf defeated Bochum 2-0 in the opening round of the season.
In Croatia's Prva HNL on Tuesday, Ljubo Milicevic and Steven Lustica did not play as Hajduk Split defeated NK Sibenik 2-1.
