Saturday's win at Peterborough means a draw will be enough for the Magpies to secure their return to the top flight at the first opportunity.

Boss Chris Hughton has hinted at making several changes to his side with Jonas Gutierrez, Wayne Routledge, Danny Guthrie, Peter Lovenkrands and Andy Carroll - who all sat out the match at London Road - available to come back in after the short turnaround.

But whichever side he sends out, Hughton is looking to secure promotion in style in front of the Geordie faithful.

"We've got the opportunity now to go back to St James' in front of own passionate fans and a big crowd and do it there, which would be great," he said.

"We know that a win takes us up and that's what we want to do."

Standing in their way will be a Sheffield United side now desperate for points after Saturday's goalless draw with Barnsley left them six points adrift of the play-off places.

And Blades defender Andy Taylor is determined not to go down without a fight as they bid to keep their own slim promotion hopes alive.

"It will be interesting come Monday because they are almost there and a win against us would seal their place in the automatic slots," he said.

"That means there will be that bit more riding on the game and we will be doing everything possible to stop them going up.

"We are looking to get three points there, which we need more than them, and we are desperate to postpone the party because that wouldn't be nice for us as a group of players."

West Brom are four points behind Newcastle but can move a big step closer to confirming their own return to the top flight by beating struggling Watford at Vicarage Road.

Watford sit just one point above Crystal Palace and the relegation zone and West Brom will hope to move to within one win of promotion.

"It's a great position to be in with five games to go," said boss Roberto Di Matteo after beating Leicester 3-0 on Saturday.

"I'm pretty happy but I think the day we actually achieve our target then I will be."

Third and fourth-placed Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City meet at the City Ground looking for the final few points they each need to wrap up their play-off spots, but it is below them that things get more interesting.

Swansea, who suffered a heartbreaking loss to Cardiff on Saturday thanks to Michael Chopra's injury-time goal, are fifth on 62 points, just one point clear of Leicester in sixth and Blackpool a point further back in seventh.

The Swans host Scunthorpe while Leicester are home to QPR and Blackpool welcome Doncaster.

Middlesbrough head another pack of hopefuls - including Doncaster and Sheffield United - five points further back as they make the long trip to Plymouth.

At the other end, Crystal Palace will be hoping West Brom can do them a favour while they take on Preston at Selhurst Park.

Today's other fixtures see Barnsley host bottom side Peterborough, Sheffield Wednesday entertain Bristol City, Coventry travel to Reading and Derby take on Ipswich.
