au.fourfourtwo.com understands that the Malaysian national team will use Australia as a base as they prepare for the Asian Cup. In that time, the Malaysians are slated to play three friendlies including one potentially against A-League side Sydney FC.

The announcement on the AFC website was made by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) General Secretary Dr Ibrahim Saad who said that Malaysia would, "kickstart their preparations with a three-match playing tour of Australia from May 7-29 during which they are scheduled to play the Australian Olympic side, Sydney FC and Western Australia. We will base them in Penang after their return from Australia," Saad reportedly said.

Sydney FC spokesperson Mark Worwood confirmed the approach from FAM but added the game wasn't confirmed as yet.

The games will be part of their preparations for the Asian Cup in July. Malaysia is currently ranked 154 in the world and 27 in the Asian confederation. They have been drawn alongside Iran, China and Uzbekistan in Asian Cup Group C which will be held in the capital Kuala Lumpur.
