FORMER Brisbane Roar defender Bob Malcolm has returned to Scotland with praise for the A-League despite being forced out by Ange Postecoglou’s youth policy.
The 29-year-old returned to Scotland in search of a club after leaving Roar.
Malcolm told The Sun he, Charlie Miller and Craig Moore were not part of the youth policy implemented by Postecoglou but admitted he was impressed by the athleticism of the A-League.
"We had a change of manager and the new boss wanted younger players in," he said. "Craig, myself and Charlie left because they were going in a different direction but that's football."
He admitted he was sick of being abused walking down the street in Glasgow, moving to Australia for the lifestyle.
"I might have gone for the life but I got there and realised the football was good," he said. "It was slower than I thought but that's more to do with the heat than anything else."
Athleticism was the key in the A-League and he said he didn't believe there was a big difference in class.
he added: "That team I was at gave Celtic a good game in pre-season so I don't think there's a huge gulf in class.
"Nowhere is frantic as the SPL and in Australia it's more about being athletic. But you rarely see games that have more than two or three goals in them.
"It's hard to go for 90 minutes. Even the home-based players find that."
Malcolm made nine appearances for Roar before playing three times for Dundee on his return to Scotland, but he is currently in search of a club.
