New York City Football Club are expected to begin life in the MLS from 2015 with discussions in place over a permanent stadium at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens.

 
Manchester City chief executive Ferran Soriano is to oversee the process of filling leadership positions at the club in the weeks to come and said it was a promising move for the club because of New York's "rapidly expanding soccer fan-base".
 
"We are thrilled to contribute to the energy and growth of New York City Soccer," he said. 
 
"In the Yankees, we have found the absolute best partner for developing a world-class sports organisation and a winning team that will carry the New York City Football Club name with pride."
 
Hal Steinbrenner, managing general partner of the New York Yankees, added: "We are pleased to be associated with this major move by MLS to increase its presence in the New York market and to enhance the opportunity for New York soccer fans to enjoy high-level play in their own city.

City are due to play a friendly against Chelsea at The Yankee Stadium on Saturday.
