ARGENTINA coach Diego Maradona owes the Italian taxman 37million euros from his days playing with Napoli, according to the Association of Italian taxpayers.
A statement released on Contribuenti.it - the website for Italian taxpayers - has revealed Maradona, who spent seven years at the Serie A club between 1984 and 1991, has to date only contributed 42,000 euros and two luxury watches.
It read: "Vittorio Carlomagno, president of Contribuenti.it, made a distressing statement today: 'The Italian tax office has been unable to collect more than 0.1% from Maradona.'
"Maradona still owes the Treasury another 37million euros, of which 23.5million is for overdue interest.
"Contribuenti.it recalls that Equitalia Polis, the collection agent for the Napoli region, has until now only received 42,000 euros plus two luxury watches."
Francesco D'Errico, director of Equitalia, insists they will continue to pursue Maradona for the unpaid taxes.
