Jordan Murray is hoping to be celebrating for two reasons tonight when his Central Coast Mariners host Adelaide United in the FFA Cup semi-finals.
The Mariners meet the Reds on Murray's 24th birthday – and he admits a spot in the Cup final would be the perfect gift.
"It would be a great birthday present," he said. "That’s in the back of my mind, it’s more for the club and for the fans to get a win."
Central Coast take on Adelaide on home soil, and Murray believes that home advantage will be crucial.
"It’s going to be huge," he said.
"The Central Coast hasn’t had the FFA Cup here in a quite a long time and it’s a semi-final so it’s even bigger.
"To have the home crowd is going to be an advantage and we’re just looking forward to getting as many people to the game and putting on a really good show.
"We just want to put on a good performance. Adelaide are always a strong Cup team. They’re good in the league and it’s going to be a very, very tight game."
Murray signed with the Mariners from APIA Leichhardt last year.
The forward, who has made 22 appearances for the A-League club, is excited by the competition for places at Central Coast this season.
"Matty Simon is a seasoned veteran and he’s someone I look up to," he said.
"It’s good to have competition, it brings the best out of everyone and I know it brings the best out of me. I’m trying to push myself to be the best I can be.
"There’s all-round good competition. Training’s been really good in the past couple of months."
