Marc Marino grew up as an Adelaide United fan and is looking forward to finally taking his chance with the Reds first-team.

Marino has signed for Adelaide for the 2016/2017 season after joining from Melbourne City.

The young forward, who hails from the South Australian city, is eager to make his mark with his hometown club.

“I was at the first-ever game, I went to pretty much every game as a kid with my Dad and brother,” Marino told FourFourTwo.

“I’ve grown up supporting the club and it’s amazing to be finally playing for them. It’s always been something I wanted to do. I’m very excited. I cant wait to get started and play in front of all the home fans, in front of my family.”

Marino came through Football Federation of South Australia’s National Training Centre and spent time at the AIS. The 20-year old actually trained with Adelaide United three years ago when he was just 17.

“Back then to be fair I was injured when I was training,” he explained.

“They didn’t get a look at the best of me then, because I was injured at that stage and I was just around the club when some of the AIS boys were training. But I always knew the people at Adelaide and they always liked me.

"Obviously I’ve signed for one year so I want to prove myself and hopefully do well for the team, score some goals and go form there.”

Marino has been with Melbourne City for the past two seasons, scoring two goals in nine appearances. The striker was impressed with the Reds in 2015/2016, with the club capturing the A-League premiership and grand final double.

“It was amazing watching them last season, playing against them was so tough,” he admitted.

“Being with now hopefully we can achieve the same as what they did this year. Even with the Asian Champions League coming up, hopefully we can push all the way there and hopefully win another title there.

“It’s exciting, there’s a lot of trophies up grabs and I’m sure the team could do it again.”

Marino can play as a striker and on the wing, and is relishing the chance to play alongside the likes of Marcelo Carrusca and Isaias Sanchez. With Bruce Djite, Bruce Kamau and Craig Goodwin departing there are positions in the final third at the Reds up for grabs.

“They’re always going to be feeding you the ball,” he said.

"I’m excited to work with all those players. There might be an opportunity out on the wing. I’m happy to play anywhere in the front three. I’ve grown up playing on the wing and up front, I’m happy to play both. I’m sure I can adapt to their style.”
