Mark Viduka has passed up the chance of a triumphant farewell to the Socceroos in his hometown of Melbourne next month in front of an expected packed MCG.
Skipper Viduka wasn't named in Graham Arnold's squad today for the September 11 clash against Argentina at the G. The coach elected instead to give a call up to fit again Nuremburg striker Josh Kennedy.
"Mark's doing extremely well at Newcastle, he scored a great goal on the weekend against Middlesbrough," said Arnold.
"Mark's been in fantastic form ... he's still deciding his future though.
"I gave a number of players an opportunity to have their farewell and only Skoko took up the offer."
Despite his poor form at the Asian Cup, defender Lucas Neill is tipped to take the armband although Arnold said he'd wait until this weekend's round of matches in Europe before naming his captain.
Ticket sales have been brisk for the game with an estimated 75,000 plus crowd expected to turn out for the glamour fixture against a star-studded Argentina.
