Western Sydney Wanderers manager Markus Babbel is riding out the stormy period of his tenure reiterating that time is on his side in his project in the west.
Babbel's Western Sydney were lethargic in a disappointing 2-0 loss at home to Melbourne City last night. Two lapses in concentration at the back saw Melbourne City score two quickfire goals leaving the Wanderers with an uphill battle in the second half.
Rostyn Griffiths was sent off early in the second stanza but Western Sydney still struggled to break through with goalkeeper Eugene Galekovic rolling back the years with two point blank saves and a penalty stop off Oriol Riera.
Babbel from the beginning has said he doesn't like the mentality of the team and bemoaned his side's lack of energy.
"I don't know (why there is a lack of energy)," Babbel said.
"It's a process, I told you seven months ago I was not happy with the mentality of the team.
"It's a very difficult moment for us because in the second half we played very well, we tried everything we talked about at half-time."
"I said at half-time for me it was not good enough, if we play like this we have no chance, no chance."
Western Sydney Wanderers fans went into meltdown after their first half performance with the majority of the active supporters group the Red and Black Bloc (RBB) walking out in protest at the team's performance. To add insult to injury, the team was booed off the field at half-time and full-time.
Babbel said he understood the fans' frustration.
"What can we say? The fans want to see us win," Babbel said.
"If you are 2-0 down at half-time of course you are not going to be clapping your hands. This is normal, in Europe it's the same.
"I can only say what I saw, it is like this, we lost, we didn't score and congratulations to Melbourne City."
The Wanderers have a tough road in the new year facing in-form Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix at home before heading west to face Perth Glory.
