Both are the subject of reported interest from Manchester United, where former Everton manager David Moyes now resides.

However, the Spaniard, who is preparing for his first season in charge at Goodison Park, insisted that no club had made an official approach for the pair.

When asked on Thursday whether there had been any bids made for the duo, Martinez said: "Not at all, not at all.

"I know that is not what you might want to hear but everyone here is focused on fighting for spots in the starting line-up and the competitive level in this group is impressive.

"I don't think speculation is healthy, we are just trying to become as good as we can before the transfer window closes.

"If we get clubs talking about our players we take it as compliment, because the players have been impressing and doing really well."

However, Martinez suggested that, if a bid did come in for Baines or Fellaini, it may not be his decision as to whether they would stay or not.

"The modern game does not allow a manager to have that control," he said, before asserting that he was happy with how his squad is shaping up.

"I'm very excited, the squad is very strong. We have some good youngsters who I feel can come in and help the first team.

"We will carry on trying to become as strong as we can."

Martinez has made four signings in the close-season, loaning Gerard Deulofeu from Barcelona and acquiring Antonio Alcaraz, Joel Robles and Arouna Kone on permanent deals.
