MasterChef judge George Calombaris has been charged with assault for shoving a teenager at the A-League Grand Final in Sydney.
Calombaris is due to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on June 29 for the incident involving a 19-year-old Sydney FC fan.
Footage shows the Victory fan walking onto the field post-match with and being heckled by Sydney fans chanting “pay your staff” and “you dodgy bastard” following revelations he had underpaid 160 employees.
“While I am not proud of my reaction to the situation, I was offended by a spectator yelling out abusive and derogatory comments about my family,” Calombaris said in a statement.
“I have spoken to Melbourne Victory FC and Football Federation Australia today to report the situation and I’m truly sorry that this has happened.”
