The Sun claims Ryan is in pole position for a switch to Old Trafford next season after David de Gea has reportedly decided not to renew his contract with the Red Devils.

It comes after a stunning start to the season for the 26 year old former Central Coast Mariners keeper who made his debut in the A-League at just 18.

He's kept clean sheets in his last three EPL games and has pulled off spectacular saves all season including impressive performances in matches against Liverpool and Manchester United.

De Gea is set to leave United for PSG or Juventus after his dream of a move to Real Madrid was foiled when they snapped up Thibault Courtois instead.

Sources within Old Trafford have told The Sun they are now looking at Ryan to replace him. 

His record at Brighton, league-leading stats and his award-winning stints in Belgium are said to make him a surprise first choice for the club.

Ryan still has three years left on his Brighton deal which means United will have to dig deep to prise him away from the south coast side -– but that will also make the offer even harder for Brighton management to resist.

Plumpton-born Ryan left the Mariners in 2013 after three years to join Club Brugge and earned a move to Valencia on the back of his success in Belgium.

But the Spanish move turned into a flop which saw him become a back up option in La Liga and was loaned out to Genk back in Belgium before he made the $7.5m move to Brighton in 2017.
